The trip up north

under General Stuff, Wassup at 11:02 pm on November 6th, 2006

Its been 3 years since our last big family trip which was to Udaipur so this trip was a welcome relief. I really loved Jaipur. Its by far the best non hill station tourist spot ive been to up north. Then came Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura and Vrindavan. I must say, nothing beats seeing the Taj Mahal at sunrise :D Fatehpur Sikri was a great place to goto.

I cba to up 500+ MB of pics but ill definately up the really good ones once i get time :) Especially the pics of the Taj Mahal for lopardo and the one special pic for ddunk :P

AXIS at Praxis

under General Stuff, Programming, Wassup at 11:10 pm on September 30th, 2006

AXIS dominated at the Praxis winning 8 certi’s and a prize (which only the team members know about atm. Its a secret :P). Here are the final few words from my review of the event on the AXIS site.

Overall we bagged 8 certi’s and a secret prize (to be revealed soon ;) ). Dont know about you sam but i started brainstorming the moment we were standing on the 5th floor and talking just before you got your certi’s. Next year, we want an AXIS 1-2 (and a 1-2-3 if we can get 3 teams/projects/packages up ;) )

All hail, the AXIS is here. With its first major title under its weight, we annouce our arrival. If youre against us, you better be ready cause we’re coming all guns blazing ;)

Just as a footnote for personal reminders, i rappelled down the VESIT building yesterday. Nice view standing on the side of a 5 storey building, i must say ;)

DAS Keyboard

under General Stuff at 3:03 am on August 27th, 2006

The story begins 6 months and 16 days ago when i got a New Keyboard. I must confess, i have been wanting to make my keyboard a DAS Keyboard like segosa did ever since i got this cheap keyboard. The opportunity came up a few days back when i got a free Maple keyboard meaning that my keyboard was now redundant. Thus taking this opportunity i consumed an entire satrurday night to do this. I experimented with different ways and found that the sand paper should be really good. I just stuck with a metallic blade used to cut thermocol sheets and removed all the paint marks, being careful not to leave marks though.

I already know from the experience of removing the text of the shift button on the same keyboard that it doesnt take long for the key to perfectly smoothen out and lose almost all of the marks that it was tampered with (unless you look at it closely) though i confirmed this fact as well. Either way, i just went one step ahead and blackened the parts which were white so that it doesnt look odd in the morning when my parents see it cause they are gonna be freaked about the blankness of this keyboard. :P

Another good thing to do at 3 am in the night ;) For those who dont know what a DAS keyboard is, you can visit the official site or visit seogsa’s page on creating a DAS Keyboard.

Yeah now i am going to bed =p

Ubuntu dualboot

under General Stuff at 12:44 pm on August 20th, 2006

As everytime ive given up studies and everything is seeming quite tough. But keeping up with my ‘academic lamerism’ im worried about it and yet not doing anything. Infact i was bored last night and i cleared my D drive and made my self a WinXP/Ubuntu dual boot :D

All i need to do now is update my ubuntu and a few apps on it and ill be ready. Ill post pics and stuff tho im still angry about the fact that i cant play mp3’s since i dont have the appropriate decoder. I think it will play FLAC but i dont have any of my music in that form. Bleh, ill probably download a decoder or download the latest ubuntu and install it (the latter should probably have support)

Anyhow, if you have any suggestions of what i can do to kill more of the “free” time created by not studying by doing something on ubuntu then let me know :)

Guess whos back

under General Stuff at 1:33 pm on July 9th, 2006

Yeah my pc is finally fixed. 17 days without sitting on a pc (6 of which without a pc to come online at all) finally yeilded a few good results. Anyways nothing much is up other than the fact that i am really busy with studies and stuff.

Note to all those who are breathing down my neck for our pics from the last trip: Ill do it when i get free time. Have patience :P

Just a few things to note.

  • I had fun in the few days of seriously heavy showers (well each day having 150-250 mm rainfall which is normal, but 3-4 days of them causes minor floodings in low lying areas) and for a change it was good to be in a bus for 2 hours stuck in traffic with friends with heavy showers outside ;) Kudos to the government. Though the country may be cursing you and despite the fact that there were a few things you didnt look into, i salute you for the work that you did. Better than last year it must be said.
  • Damn Germany lost :’( Those two last minute goals really hurt especially when you had to get up in 2 hours for a lecture :dodgy: Atleast they got 3rd place :) Just hope France dont fall victims to the Italian “Diving” squad. I shall forever hate them (Grosso mainly) for the last minute incident against Australia even though the 119th min goal he scored was spectacular.
  • I hope Federer wins against Nadal to continue his 45-50 odd winning streak on grass. Congrats to Amelie. Hope your country does the same (tho i was rooting for Justine :P)

OMFG

Shit i cant believe i lost 650 lines of codework on ThunderBank (the project im doing for the programing group ‘The Axis‘ ) When i got up i thought i pressed F2. I guess i was wrong
The worst part was the saved part only has half of the 1st class. I lost 1 and a half classes :( So i guess ill have to redo the entire 2 hours work i put in yesterday :-/ Hopefully it will be quicker this time since i know exactly how to do it.
Yeah my exams are over and they were good i guess … i still doubt i’ll reach my target due to my ‘Academic Lamerism’ or maybe is should set lower targets due to i next time around :P

Anyway im thinking of starting with 2 subjects (unlike the last to sems where i did only one) in my vacations. So im going for EN/W (Electrical Networks) and EDC (Electronic Devices and Circuits). I know a good book for the latter but im still searching for a good one for the earlier … Ill do my math and DLDA (Digital Logic, Design and Application …. well its something like that ) when my college starts. Well i still have to do php, the entire thunderbank project and read 2 novels along with seeing 2 more movies and watch the soccer world cup. Seems like another busy month ahead of me … Dont you think i’d be used to this by now?

Gallore of stuff and a special trip

under General Stuff, Wassup at 7:55 am on May 29th, 2006

Well i didnt sleep last night cause i had to goto the airport to pick up my bro. As it turned out, a guy who lives near us works there so i got special permission to go inside the airport to pick up my bro :) Never been in there so it felt good … nice merc kept near baggage claim :P

Anyways back here at home the gifts came flying out when his bags opened. Here is a small list …

  1. 17 Inch Samsung TFT-LCD Monitor
  2. Samsung Super drive
  3. Sony Mp3 Player (NW-A608)
  4. Logitech Cam (which i didnt request … random shopping pickup/dad’s request to talk to my bro ;))
  5. A Manchester United mini football
  6. A lot more random personal gifts which i wont like to state

The monitor rocks. Im at 1280×1024 atm ;) Ill get some pics on when i install the softwares to my bro’s i-mate ;) I could use my webcam but it takes pics of very small resolutions … cant find the option … too busy atm :P

Plus i havent tested the dvd writer yet … cba to open up my pc and also i have only 2 dvd-r’s :P

Oh yeah, btw … my exams are still on. I havent started studying for my wednesday exam yet (Last exam was on friday) :( Academic Lamerism indeed eh ?

What have i been upto?

under Academics, General Stuff at 2:58 pm on April 25th, 2006

Well with my prilims gone and the submissions done with i can now start studying seriously. Today i plan to start my math. Ive been doing quite a lot (not including studies since everyone knows i never do that :D)

I just thought you should know im ok and fine …. ive made a few things as the time passed and i am about to make a new release soon :)

‘The’ day of the year

under General Stuff, Wassup at 7:55 pm on April 9th, 2006

Apparently since midnight my cell phone has been continuosly ringing either for messages or calls each one of them saying the same thing, “Happy birthday”. I still need to figure out what it means so i called up a few “linguistic scholars” but none of them could solve the puzzle of the Birthday. After some looking into it, i came to the conclusion that i should google it but since that led me no where i followed the link to the definition of the word “birthday” present on that page.

Answers.com seemed to have led me to the wiki definition which stated ….

A birthday is the date on which a person was born. It is customary in many cultures to celebrate the anniversary of one’s birthday in some way, for example by having a birthday party with friends in which gifts are given. It is also customary to treat someone especially well and generally accede to their wishes on their birthday.

Since i didnt get any gifts or parties i sent messages to everyone who wished / called me stating exactly what wiki did. Finally my brother called me and wished me. Just as i was about the say the same thing he offered me a gift. It was only then i realised, omg its my birthday today. :o

On a more serious note, i turned 19 today. The birthday gift is something i am “supposed” to recieve when my bro comes back home. Dont worry, if i do get the thing that he told me, i would definately make a post about it :p

Btw i did message back all my friends as a prank. I had already looked up the definitions and had the templates ready for the past 3 months :refuck:

My music

under General Stuff, Wassup at 2:51 pm on March 23rd, 2006

Just incase some of you thought that i was still under the bridge about me being robbed then i must say you are deeply mistaken. I am ok but as usual really busy with all my work ;)

I have been busy with quite a few tests (scoring really well in all of them) and submissions and its going to be more hectic soon. Next month i shall (hopefully) have a priliminary examination and then some submissions. After that my PL will begin. My sem 2 exams are from around 22nd may.

Just to reiterate the point that im expanding my music gallery and listening to more artists as fast as my connection can download the songs (:P), here is my music page to check up on to the music im listening to. Thanks again to the great service that last.fm provides.

Lately i have downloaded quite a few albums from OiNK. My picks have been Eminem - Encore (Edited), Eminem - Curtain Call, U2 - How to dismantle an atomic bomb and Flipsyde - We the people.

If you have some good recommendations then please, go ahead :) If you are a last.fm user then you could send me a recommendation. My username is janderton
